Mohamed E. Bayou, Professor of Accounting.  Dr. Bayou teaches both graduate and undergraduate level courses in management (cost) accounting and controllership and conducts research studies in these areas. He serves as a co- director of two international, federally funded programs.  One is helping in establishing a three-year partnership between the University of Michigan-Dearborn (UMD) and the University of Garyounis (UG) in Benghazi, Libya to update the latter’s curricula and research productivity; this commitment included spending the Winter 2008 semester teaching cost accounting at UG.  The other program was designed to train entrepreneurs in Yemen in modern business practices.  The programs were funded by the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).   He served the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) in different capacities including regional director, national representative and president of the IMA Oakland County Chapter, which had about 4,000 members.  He also co-chaired the first conference of the UMD-HFCC (Henry Ford Community College) Partnership-Plus in helping the transfer of HFCC graduates to UMD.  The Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) awarded Dr. Bayou with the Arch T. Colwell Merit Award in 1995.

Dr. Bayou’s teaching and research spans 34 years with experience in different countries and different universities in the U.S.  He earned his Master of Science in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, his MBA and Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio.  He served as a reviewer for numerous refereed journals and conferences and a co-chair of special issues of the Managerial Finance journal.  In addition to several chapters in books, Dr. Bayou published more than 70 articles in refereed journals such as Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Advances in Management Accounting, Advances in Accounting Education, Review of Accounting and Finance, Applications of Fuzzy Sets and the Theory of Evidence to Accounting, Journal of Cost Management, and The CPA Journal.  He presented more than 100 papers in accounting and decision sciences conferences.  Finally, Dr Bayou is a member of several accounting and other professional organizations.
