Elif Izberk-Bilgin, Assistant Professor, Marketing. Prof. Izberk-Bilgin holds a B.A. in Sociology from Bogaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey, an M.B.A. with specializations in Marketing and International Business and a Ph.D. from University of Illinois-Chicago. Her research focuses on globalization of consumer culture, consumer activism, cross-cultural consumption, branding, and sociological aspects of consumerism in emerging countries. Prof. Izberk-Bilgin’s research has been published in Advances in Consumer Research, Developments in Marketing Science, and Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research. She has also presented her research at the American Marketing Association, Association for Consumer Research, Academy of Marketing Science, Babson Entrepreneurship Conferences and the Social Science Colloquium at UMD. Before joining the faculty at UMD, Prof. Izberk-Bilgin has taught at the University of Illinois-Chicago and won the Dean’s Commendation for Excellence in Teaching. Her teaching interests include International/Global Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Principles of Marketing, Qualitative and Interpretative Research Methods in Marketing. Prior to her academic career, Prof. Izberk-Bilgin worked in conference, fair, and special events management sector organizing the United Nations’ Habitat II City Summit in Istanbul, coordinating special events for PricewaterhouseCoopers, General Electric, and Ameritech in Chicago, and marketing Chicago’s upscale party venue, Maxim’s de Paris, to wedding consultants and location scouts.
