B. Lev, Professor Lev taught at University of Michigan-Dearborn (since 1990); Worcester Polytechnic Institute (87-90); Temple University (70-87); and had short academic appointments at Wharton School, San Jose State University, Tel-Aviv University and Tianjin University, China. He was the Dean of the College of Business, University of Michigan - Dearborn; the Management Department Head at Worcester Polytechnic Institute; Chairman of the Management Department at Temple University; and Chairman of the Department of Management Studies at University of Michigan - Dearborn. He received his Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering; Master in Industrial Engineering; Ph.D. degree in Operations Research from Case Western Reserve University.
Professor Lev published five books all by North Holland Publishing Company: Introduction to Mathematical Programming, 1982; Energy Models and Studies, 1983; Analytic Techniques for Energy Planning, 1984; Production Management Methods and Studies, 1986; Strategic Planning in Energy and Natural Resources, 1987.
He has authored numerous articles published in such journals as Journal of Operations Research, Journal of Management Science, Naval Research Logistic Quarterly, Omega, European Journal of Operations Research, Operational Research Quarterly, Interfaces, Computers and Operations Research, The Encyclopedia of Operations Research, The Institute of Industrial Engineering – Transactions, and The International Journal MSEM. He was a Guest Editor of a Special Issue for European Journal of Operations Research.
He is the Editor-in-Chief of OMEGA - The International Journal of Management Science; Co-Editor-in-Chief of The International Journal of Management Science and Engineering Management; and is or was an associate editor of six journals: International Abstracts of Operations Research; Interfaces; Employee Responsibilities and Rights Journal; Institute of Industrial Engineering-Transactions; Journal of Operations Research; IFORS On-Line Encyclopedia.
As a consultant, Dr. Lev had clients which include U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Air Force, Conrail, Lukens Steel, GTE, Carling Brewing Company, Temple University Hospital Department of Radiology, Temple University School of Dentistry Department of Community Dentistry, Rosenbluth Travel and Norton Company. During 1978, he received an IPA award and spent the year in Washington, D.C. with the U.S. Department of Energy.
Professor Lev served as INFORMS first VP-Meetings and in this capacity he was responsible for INFORMS International Meetings in Anchorage 1994, Singapore 1995, Barcelona 1997, Israel 1998; and INFORMS Semi Annual National Meetings. Served as Council member of TIMS, TIMS VP-Meetings, President of Philadelphia Chapter of ORSA/TIMS; President ORSA SIG on Energy Application and on the organizing committee of two national conferences (1983; 1986). Was on the Planning Committee Eastern Academy of Management meeting Philadelphia, 1986; Program Committee IFORS, Vancouver, 1996; Beijing, China, 1999 and Hawaii 2005; General Co-Chair INFORMS Meeting Israel, 1998; Program Committee EURO 2001, Rotterdam; Chair Program Committee, IFORS 2002, Edinburgh which was the largest IFORS conference ever with 1,165 delegates from 64 countries. APORS Program Committee, 2003, India; INFORMS Meetings committee, 2006, Hong Kong; MSEM Program Committee Co-Chair, 2007, Chengdu, China. Was the General Chairman of ORSA/TIMS meeting Philadelphia 1990, which was the second largest conference of ORSA/TIMS with 2,454 delegates.
