Two Student Groups Take Honors at Competitions

Teams of College of Business students competed at separate events recently, and both returned with high honors. The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team was named Rookie of the Year and 2nd Runner-Up at the SIFE USA Regional Competition, while the American Marketing Association (AMA) team captured 2nd Place Winner honors at the 1st Annual Case Study Competition.

The SIFE team traveled to Cincinnati to showcase their community impact project which places interns at non-profit organizations. “Improving our neighborhoods – such as we do through our SIFE Consulting Internship Award – is reward enough, but these competitions allow us to really showcase our contributions,” says Kerry Thompson, COB graduate student and Director of SIFE’s Community Internship Program.

The AMA team traveled to East Lansing where they prepared recommendations for a business concern facing the Michigan Apple Committee. "I am really proud of how the team used their marketing knowledge to bring solutions to a business problem. This was more than cramming for a test, the event showcased their breadth of understanding of business issues," said Chris Samfilippo, Lecturer of Marketing and AMA faculty advisor.

"Student engagement in projects like these is an integral part of the College of Business experience. I am extremely proud of the work of these two teams," said Dean Kim Schatzel.

The SIFE team presenters included Colin Chardavoyne, James Danley, Fjori Narazani, Andrea Penton, Chelsey Porter, and Kerry Thompson. The AMA team was represented by Amanda Clevey, Pat Schwager, and Kerry Thompson.
