KPMG LLP and The University of Michigan - Dearborn will be hosting a speaker series throughout the academic year, each focusing on a different topic. All of these events will take place in the Fairlane Center North on The University of Michigan - Dearborn campus.
The first event, TARP: The Plan and The Aftermath, will be held Thursday, September 24 at 6pm. At this event there will be discussion of the inception and administration of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), the capital market changes since its introduction, and how the changes in regulatory capital continue the financial industry. The keynote address, The Plan, will be given by Tom Bloom, former interim Chief Financial Officer, Office of Financial Stability, and current Chief Financial Officer, Comptroller of the Currency. He will discuss his personal experience with the creation of TARP and his role in the Office of Financial Stability. A panel discussion, The Aftermath, will discuss the industry impacts of TARP and how regulatory funding and compliance continue to impact the financial industry.
Solutions to the Rising Cost of Health Care will be the topic at our second event that will take place on November 19, 2009. Discussions will include the factors that contribute to the rising cost of health care, developing an aggregate policy to control cost in the long run, and to offer ideas and solutions to impact current cost.
Diversification of the Michigan Economy, on January 21, 2010 will focus on the future growth potential in the State’s economy.
The final event of the series, The Future of the Automotive Industry will take place on March 25, 2010. The discussion will focus on changes and solutions needed to achieve a stable, profitable US auto industry and what the US industry will look like, compared to its non-US competitors.
