iLabs Prepare for 2009 eCities Luncheon

iLabs, the University of Michigan – Dearborn’s Center for Innovation Research, is holding its annual eCities luncheon on October 20, 2009 to recognize the top performing entrepreneurial communities in Michigan. Richard Blouse, CEO of the Detroit Regional Chamber, will give a keynote address to government officials, business leaders, and noted academics.

eCities, or Entrepreneurial Cities Index, is a research study that examines community level factors that influence entrepreneurship, economic development, and job growth annually. Entrepreneurship is the focus because of its importance to expansion and diversification of regional economies and small business’ impact of job creation. The study is continually building knowledge on entrepreneurship and local growth.

At the 2008 eCities Luncheon, the communities of Auburn Hills, Plymouth Township, Southfield, Troy, Tecumseh and Dundee were recognized for their efforts to encourage entrepreneurship in Michigan. eCities has received coverage in Crain’s Detroit Business and has had promotional assistance from other business publications including Michigan Municipal League, Michigan Townships Association, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan Economic Developers Association, and Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.

If you are a local government that wishes to share in the best practice of communities to promote entrepreneurial growth and economic development, you are encouraged to contact Tim Davis at 313.593.4060 or tadavis@umd.umich.edu for more information on the project or luncheon.
