Kim Schatzel, Dean of the College of Business, University of Michigan-Dearborn was honored as one of the “Women to Watch in 2009” for her outstanding achievements and successes at the University.
One of Dean Schatzel’s successes was the establishment in 2006 of iLabs, the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Center for Innovation Research, housed within the University’s College of Business. iLabs is dedicated to advancing the understanding of corporate, entrepreneurial, and institutional innovation. Noteworthy projects conducted by iLabs include The University of Michigan-Dearborn Innovation Index, eCities: The Entrepreneurial Cities Indes, the Michigan Technology Climate, The Economic Impact of Willow Run Airport 2007, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport 2006 Economic Impact Study.
With the collection of studies, surveys, and research iLabs has completed under the leadership of Dean Schatzel, the goal is to impact the region’s economy directly. Crain’s Detroit Business wrote, “The goal, Schatzel says, is to help the local business community and provide UM-Dearborn with a way to differentiate its research from other institutions in metro Detroit.”
